Spirituality

The novel is a main story, that of the Mulatto Solitude.

The ramifications will quickly settle down to reveal whole swathes of African spirituality.  The concept of an afterlife, a judgment of souls, a paradise, all prior to the monotheism of Abrahamic cults.  To build a bridge connecting to each other it was necessary to rely on a solidly established base of knowledge.

The image of an African made up wild, girdled with straw, dancing frantically to the sound of a drum is anchored in neophyte minds.  More generally, even in Africa there is a tendency to link ancestral practices to witchcraft.

In the islands it is yet another thing, the Voodoo rites, a direct heritage of African spirituality, are tinged with mysticism and often associated with acute charlatanism.

My novel is not a defense of African beliefs but rather a practice in the light of a real situation.  The guiding idea being to reconcile some with their stories and others with a colonialist past that has largely denied this dimension.  African civilization is largely underestimated for lack of knowledge.  "The novel is a unique opportunity to catch up.
